Stop 1: Long Island Railroad Extends Eastward, 1872

The first leg of the eastern extension of the Long Island Railroad into Southampton was completed in 1870 and local service to East End towns followed shortly thereafter. This improved railroad connection brought the first of many artistic incursions—that of the group of young artists known as the Tile Club.
