Stop 7: Albert and Adele Herter build The Creeks on Georgica Pond, 1899

The artistic couple Albert and Adele Herter, both children of wealthy socialites, received 75 acres on Georgica Pond as a wedding gift. They commissioned Grosvenor Atterbury to design the extravagant Mediterranean style villa known as The Creeks. The house became central to civic, social and cultural happenings in the East Hampton community for decades and was later owned by the artist Alfonso Ossorio.
